LIFESTYLE

Your lifestyle is incredibly important.  If 80% of how well we will be and how long we will live is epigenetic then how well we will be and how long we will live is 80% dependent on choices we make.

We do not talk much on this website regarding mental health but we are going to mention this now. Very little of what Vivid Life is promoting is of much value if you are unhappy. Living your best life includes being happy and addressing any mental health issues you might be experiencing.

Similarly, Vivid Life is promoting principles and a way of life. Having a sweet treat or something naughty every now and then makes life fun and you should enjoy your guilty pleasures from time to time but do so as a rare treat and in moderation.

Our lifestyle choices around diet and exercise are the ones that will make the greatest impact on our long-term wellbeing.  When it comes to diet, the key here is to strongly focus on whole foods and to the extent possible (because it is increasingly hard to do), limit Ultra Processed Foods, in your diet. To help out, Vivid Life has partnered with New Zealand based, registered nutritionist, Mikki Williden PhD.  Mikki has a range of programmes and once you have created your profile on here and told us a bit about yourself along with your longevity goals, Mikki will recommend the best programme for you.

When it comes to exercise, you want to be doing something weightbearing and that makes you puff, to the point it would be difficult to hold a normal conversation, more than 4 times a week.  This achieves 2 things, the first is that you need to maintain muscle mass.  As we age it becomes increasingly difficult to build and maintain muscle and it is important that we carry reasonable muscle into our 70’s and 80’s and making you breathless gives us the cardiovascular workout we all need.  Something as simple as going to F45 resistance classes are fine but we have also partnered with Jaimee Taylor at JetFit who will design a programme specifically for you and work with you to achieve your fitness goals.
